Yes. There is internet access available 24/7. Each ship has a crew internet cafe with terminals. Most ships now also have wireless access as well. Internet generally costs 6-10 cents/minute. Most ports will also have internet cafes nearby to the where the ship docks.
You will be paid in US Currency, either cash or via direct deposit. If direct deposit is unavailable, you can elect to send a wire transfer or exchange the cash for a money order. Depending on the ship, payments are generally made monthly or bi-monthly.
Federal taxes are deducted for US Citizens. However, state taxes are not deducted. If you are a non-US Citizen, you are responsible for declaring any income made on board.
Yes. Every employee needs a passport valid through to the end of his or her contract. Certain countries also require you to have a valid passport through until at least 6 months beyond your being in those countries.
Non-US and Canadian Citizens require a C1/D Visa. Once hired, you’ll receive a letter of employment and supporting documents for you to take to the US Embassy to obtain the C1/D visa. Depending on your destination, some countries will require an entrance visa as well.
No. We’ll make all of the travel arrangements for you in conjuction with the cruise line. You will be flown from your home airport to the ship and back at the end of your contract.
As a crew member, you may be required to assist in safety/emergency drills which will happen once or twice a cruise. Other than that, you are hired specifically as a musician or singer.
Yes. All musicians must pass a pre-employment physical exam prior to joining. This often includes a drug test, blood test & chest X-ray. Your medical certificate is generally valid for 2 years from the date your medical is administered, covering you for follow up contracts.
Yes. Coin washers and dryers are available in crew areas. Your formal wear can usually also be dry-cleaned on board.
Friends & Family discounts are available once you’ve worked with the company for a specific period of time. These benefits usually become available after you’ve worked for 6 months.
Most contracts are 3-6 months continuous, depending on the ship & position. Shorter filler positions will only go to re-hires that have successfully completed a contract with the company.
Yes. You will have access to guest areas and the gym during non-peak times. You are not allowed to be in the casino or a guest’s cabin.
We will let you know once you are hired. Each ship has different uniform requirements. As most of the cruise lines we deal with are 5-star lines, you will generally be required to have formal attire (tux, suit, dress).
Yes. The CD needs to be professionally packaged and shrink wrapped. The cruise line may take a fee. Quality Overseas Music does not take a cut for any CDs you sell.
There are several crew areas which you can use to practice in. You’ll have plenty of down time to practise and and opportunities to collaborate with other professional musicians.
Of course. One of the best parts of these contracts is the opportunity to get off the ship in the different ports and see the world. Most musicians & entertainers perform at night and the ship will generally be in port during the day.
Let us take care of it. We have access to the best musicians and singers in the world: bands, soloists, intrumentalists, acts; you name it. We are accustomed to processing visas and medicals and will do all the screening and admin work for you.
